  • Walk MS 2009: Southern California

    Apr 28, 2009

    Hey Barefoot Republic!

This weekend we wrapped up our Walk MS Campaign at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, CA!  It was a great success!  Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to walk Barefoot like planned, but had a chance to have a great time with nearly 5000 Foot Fans anyway!  Over the course of the weekend we had nearly 500 new members sign up for the Barefoot Republic!  They loved that we were supporting the cause they care about so much, Multiple Sclerosis!

The best part was all the support we got from our Barefoot friends and family.  When all is said and done and the donations have been tallied, Team Barefoot Wines will have raised over $2000 to help fight Multiple Sclerosis!  We're still working on raising more though!  Pease visit our team page at www.mswalk.com/teambarefootwine.

Get Barefoot and have a great time everyone!

  • Happy Earth Day from the Barefoot Republic!

    Apr 22, 2009

The Barefoot Republic believes that you should always be aware of and connected to your surroundings and that your (bare)feet should always be on healthy grounds.  What are some ways that you can kick back and celebrate the goodness of the amazing earth? Check out some ideas below then make sure to share yours witcovepark_original_01h us!

    • Start a Zen Garden - traditional Japanese Zen Gardens do not have any water present but instead, have gravel or sand that can either be raked or not raked to symbolize the sea, ocean, rivers, and lakes. Zen Gardens don't have to be big - create a desktop one that takes up no more room than a notebook!
    • Take a Stroll Barefoot - get connected to the earth and plant your bare roots on the ground by taking a stroll through the park or on a beach... barefoot! Let nature take over your soles!
    • Plant a Tree - close your eyes and take a deep breathe. Head on out to plant a tree and help contribute more good stuff that you breath in. A mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year.
    • Clean Up the Beach - everyone can pick up a little trash and help out no matter what day it is. Have your very own little beach clean-up by taking a garbage bag with you before you head on out for your stroll. Every little piece picked up helps the environment that much more!
    • Green Clean - if you're planning on staying in and getting chores done indoors, keep things clean and tidy with white distilled vinegar instead of harsh chemical sprays. According to the Vinegar Institute, this all-natural cleaning product has dozens of uses around the house which includes cleaning and disinfecting wood cutting boards and cleaning shower doors and toilet bowls.

How will you be celebrating Earth Day? Let us know!

  • The Kindness of Strangers

    Apr 14, 2009

kindnessofstrangers_originalI've always been moved by people who selflessly give their time and energy to others without having a thought of expecting anything in return. Barefooters of the Barefoot Republic have been posting many wonderful events that reflect this kind of mentality. Amidst all the bad that swirls around in this world, there are just as many good things that we can focus our attention on. If you haven't already, please check out our many events that all Barefooters of the Republic can attend! Many of them are wonderful charity, benefit, and fundraiser events that range from all sorts of causes and community support. We're sure that you'll find one in your area and can learn about wonderful opportunities that you can be a part of.

As I look through all the events and see them taking place in all parts of the country, I'm reminded of a book that I read last summer called, The Kindness of Strangers (Anthology). It is a collection of stories of being a stranger in foreign lands and encounters with strangers who lend a helping hand from the kindness of their hearts, no more, no less. It's a "timely collection of inspiring tales, The Kindness of Strangers explores the unexpected human connections that so often transform the experience of travel, and celebrates the gift of kindness around the world."

Are there any great inspirational reads and/or stories that move and encourage you to look beyond your own needs and inspire you to put yourself out there to help others with no expectations of anything in return? We'd love to hear from you!

  • Spotted! Barefoot in the Blogosphere

    Apr 9, 2009

    mary_ramb_original

Today we spotted Barefoot Lodi Zinfandel, Pinot Grigio & Bubbly Brut Cuvée on the blog of Mary Rambin, a fun lifestyle blogger who covers everything from food and wine to fitness and fashion.

Here Mary (far right) and Julia, Gary [of Wine Library TV fame] & Meghan are taking a look at affordable wines for the female trio's show TMI Weekly and have kindly included Barefoot in their lineup.

We can't wait to watch the episode (we'll make sure we share it with you here when it airs) and see what they think about our flavors!

Have you tried the Lodi Zinfandel, Pinot Grigio or Bubbly Brut Cuvée?

We would love to know what you think! So drop us a comment below or share a review here. We really enjoy reading your thoughts.

  • Barefoot Recipe: ZINGRIA, Debuts in CT

    Apr 9, 2009

    Team Zingria!

    Hello from beautiful Connecticut!

Just a short time back my roommate and I, thanks to a blissfully sunny day started to dream of what the long awaited summer would bring and how we should celebrate with friends.  We ended up toiling in the kitchen with some open bottles of Barefoot and stumbled on a blast from the past.
    Sangria is Back!

I made up a batch of the best Sangria around.  The key was to stick to what we liked, the Barefoot Lodi Zinfandel. Using that softer more appealing red wine, we were able to cut back on the amount of pure sugar in the recipe and along with a nice bit of smooth VSOP Brandy we didn't just make a Sangria; we had discovered Barefoot Zingria!

Ok that's great, we like, of course we like it, but I really wanted to know what other people thought.  Luckily we had a great opportunity to do just that.

At the end of March, the Easter Seals of CT were hosting their Annual 'VolleyBlast' Adult volleyball tournament for their Charity.  Barefoot was a big part of the day sponsoring a couple of teams, and with 500 people in attendance we unveiled our Barefoot Zingria to the world.... Well, Connecticut anyway.

By the end of the day Zingria was all the rage, our friends and new Republic members walked away with recipe cards so they could make it on their own at home, and we had gone through every last drop.  It was a success!  I wish our Barefoot Volleyball team could say the same.  We weren't prepared for such stiff competiton, but in the end the Easter Seals came away with their most successful 'VolleyBlast' yet, and we came away with a winning recipe.

Check out the drink recipe section of the site and print off the Barefoot ZINGRIA recipe for yourself!

    Cheers!

  • St. Louis St. Patty's Parade

    Apr 8, 2009

Over St. Patrick’s Day weekend Barefoot had a TOE-riffic presence at the St. Louis St. Patrick’s Day Parade dinner and dance! We were the only wine poured and everyone loved the new Riesling (conveniently it has a green label, perfect for the theme of the day!) The next day prior to the parade there is a 5 mile run... not only did I run the race, but I passed out Barefoot stickers while running. After the race, Barefoot was poured for all the Irish dignitaries and their families that came into town for the Parade. About 10,000 people got to sample Barefoot during the 3 days of St. Pats Festivities. A huge thanks goes out to the St. Pats parade committee for their HUGE support of the FOOT!
