  • Barefoot served up some fun at the Houston AVP Crocs Tournament!

    May 27, 2009

barefoot_spike_originalBarefoot is so excited to be a part of the AVP Crocs Tour!

Recently, Barefoot was on location in Houston where Olympic gold medalists and top seeds Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers took home their third title of the 2009 season at the AVP Crocs Tour Houston Open Presented by Warehouse Pool Supply!

With Sunday’s win, Dalhausser and Rogers became the fifth team in AVP history to surpass $1 million in domestic prize money as a team.

On the women’s side, second-seeded Jennifer Kessy and April Ross took home their first domestic title as a team.

It was a great event and we look forward to the rest of the Tour! Do you live in an AVP  Tour location? Make sure you check out all the stops AVP is making, RSVP, and say hi to Barefoot when you're there!

(Of course don't forget to tell them you're a part of the Barefoot Republic!)

We love to meet all of our friends on the sand!

    Hope to see you soon,

    Your friends at Barefoot Wine

  • Barefoot at New Orleans Wine & Food Experience

    May 27, 2009

    Hi Foot-Fans!

I just got back from the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience (NOWFE), one of the most amazing wine festivals ever!  This year was the 8th consecutive year Barefoot participated in this multi-day event.

Check out the NOWFE video above and some photos from the event here.

My fellow Barefooters and I were able to GET BAREFOOT for 3 days in a
row: Thursday we poured 25 cases of Barefoot Bubbly to over 1000 folks during the Royal Street Stroll, a wine, art, food, music and local extravaganza!

Friday and Saturday we were able to GET BAREFOOT with THOUSANDS of folks at the NOWFE GRAND TASTINGS where folks could taste phenomenal dishes prepared by TOP CHEF celebrity chefs!

I love this event! Mark your calendars now to attend next year's events: The 3rd week of May 2010!

Each year $100,000's are raised. The proceeds from this event go towards local charities to help the greater New Orleans area.

    Cheers!

  • Have A Safe & Healthy Trip to the Beach This Memorial Day Weekend

    May 19, 2009

The Huffington Post just made a great post today about ways to stay safe for those of you who are planning a Memorial Day trip to the beach. This weekend will (hopefully) mark the beginning of great summer weather and lots of fun plans under the sun. The beach may be a re-occuring destination whether you'll be spiking the volleyball around, tanning, building sand castles, and/or good 'ole splashing around in the water! Before you head on out to your sandy destinations, here are a few pointers from The Huffington Post that we think are great things to keep in mind for a safe and healthy trip:

    • Make sure that the water has recently been tested and determined to be safe.
    • Avoid swimming for at least 24 hours after a rain storm, if there is an advisory, if the water looks cloudy, or if it smells bad.  Build a sandcastle or play volleyball instead.
    • If possible, choose beaches that are next to open water or away from urban areas. They typically pose less of a health risk than beaches in developed areas or in enclosed bays and harbors with little water circulation.
    • Look for pipes along the beach that drain stormwater runoff from the streets, and don't swim near them.
    • If you can't find out if the beachwater is safe, complain to the local public health agency.

Will you be at the beach this Memorial Day weekend? Do you have other plans to celebrate the first weekend of beach season? Let us know what you'll be doing - we'd love to hear all about it!

  • Beach Monsters Return for Summer Season '09!

    May 13, 2009

catch-of-the-day-surfrider-cigarette-butts_original_01Beach season is coming up which means that your local beaches will be jam packed with an array of vibrant colored beach towels, volleyball nets, sand castles, and maybe even a monster washed up from shore or two.

If you've heard about last year's Montauk Monster then you've probably seen photos of the bloated, hairy creature washed up from shore. You can imagine what it would be like to come across something like that from your trip to the beach. Well, apparently a second monster has been found on the shores of Long Island. Whether this is a yearly hoax or not, the thought of running into things that don't belong on the beach when you're taking a nice stroll while bare foot is a very scary thought.

Although you may not run into a Montauk Monster on your usual visit to the beach, your chance of running into other unsightly objects are likely. This is why the Surfrider Foundation is here to inform, educate, and create awareness of how important it is to keep our beaches clean and safe for bare feet.

We here at the Barefoot Republic sincerely hope you don't run into any beach monsters this year and are staying safe on the clean sands!

  • Dreamy Getaways for Summer '09

    May 4, 2009

myrtle_beach_originalIt's about that time of year where the weather gets warmer and our minds drift off to far away exotic islands. There are so many different stretch of beaches and bodies of water that we would love to dip our toes in. If you're thinking about going away this year but can't or don't want to travel too far away, below are great places that you may have yet to discover right here in the states:

    • Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, pictures above) - a top destination for beach vacations, Myrtle Beach offers 60 miles of wide, soft sandy beaches, the best golf courses in the south, freshwater, ocean and deep sea saltwater fishing and more.
    • Daytona Beach (Florida) - Daytona is known for its hard packed sands making it a great destination for those seeking to satisfy motor-sport adventures. It's also got 23 miles of sparkling sandy beaches!
    • Roque Bluffs (Maine) - one of those hidden gems, Roque Bluffs is part of Maine’s Bold Coast, so-named for its pebbly, rocky beaches and untamed landscape. The beach is set in a 270-acre state park that is much less trafficked than areas farther south along the coast. If you're looking for something that strays from the traditional, Roque Bluffs might be for you.
    • San Mateo County (California) - San Mateo County is just minutes from San Francisco International Airport and is a great destination for those looking for relaxing beaches, a resort, a romantic bed & breakfast or a quiet retreat away from it all, San Mateo has got it.

There are so many hidden gems of beaches and getaways that we have yet to discover and there are some that need a little help to get them going.

With your discovery of fun beach getaways, please make sure to stop by our Beach Rescue page and cast your vote each day for the Surfrider Campaign that you think deserves the most help! Each campaign will receive $5,000 from Barefoot Wine, and the one with the most votes will receive an additional $5,000!

We'd love to hear more about your experiences at beaches that others may not know about yet - share your getaways with us!

As always, feel free to share your thoughts below :)
