  • Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project Chicago!

    Jul 31, 2009

    Hey Footers!

Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project Chicago! from Christine Reardon on Vimeo.

Thanks to all who came out to the Chicago cleanup this past weekend - we had a great time! Over 150 people joined us for the cleanup at Oak Street Beach to clean up Lake Michigan's shores.  The weather was perfect, and a big thanks to all the volunteers we helped keep Oak Street Beach barefoot-friendly!

To celebrate everyone's hard work, we all headed over to Oak Street Beachstro where Mason Jennings performed a great lineup of songs, including his new song "Sunlight."  In fact, if you purchase "Sunlight" on iTunes, proceeds will benefit the Surfrider Foundation, so check it out. Thanks again to everyone who came out!

The end of summer is fast approaching, but we still have more beaches to clean.  Seattle is our next stop - can't wait to see you all there!

Check out the video above from Chicago's celebration.

  • Introducing Barefoot California Riesling

    Jul 27, 2009

    bottle-barefoot_california_reisling_750ml_originalHi Foot Fans!

I'm excited to share with you our newest wine which will be available nationally August 1st!

Barefoot California Riesling is a medium dry wine which can also be described as ‘deliciously crisp'.

As is all of the Barefoot wines, Barefoot Riesling is varietally correct, food friendly and fruit forward.

This wine has citrus flavors: mostly lemon, tangerine, and grapefruit, with a hint of sweetness which balances the finish.

Try Barefoot Riesling with appetizers, pork, poultry, shellfish or desserts. It is also amazing with spicy cuisine: Asian, Mexican and more!!!

I look forward to your feedback!

    Enjoy!

    Cheers!
    Jen

  • Beach Rescue Heads to Chicago!

    Jul 16, 2009

Oak Street Beach photo courtesy of lapstrake on FlickrThe  Barefoot Beach Rescue Project for the Oak Street Beach is coming up next Saturday July 25th, but be sure to get there early and spend the morning having fun in the sun.  First, hop on your bikes and strap into those inline skates to cruise down the shoreline.  Later, grab some sunscreen and enjoy basking in the sun or why not bring a volleyball to start up a game!

Just before the beach rescue begins, don't forget to grab some lunch! Round everyone up and wander down to the south end of the beach where there is the beach front Oak Street Beachstro! Refuel with a salad, sandwich, some fries, and always a yummy dessert. Although, save the drinks till later for some post-rescue celebration with Mason Jennings and Barefoot wine!

    Did you know?

    • Oak Street Beach is a man-made beach.
    • It was created in 1890 as part of the Lincoln Park Commission's project to build a large breakwater system.
    • Lincoln Park began as a public cemetery during Chicago's early history.
    • If you are having trouble finding a spot in the sand, bring a chair and hang out on the concrete areas that are on either side of the beach.
    • You can bring your dog. Woof!
    • Oak Street is home to the largest area of deep water swimming in the city (1/2 mile (800 m) over 10 ft (3 m)
    • 2009 Beach Season hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you live in the Chicago area and you're already a regular visitor and fan of Oak Street Beach, let us know some of your favorite things about it! To attend the Beach Rescue Project event and post-celebrations with Mason Jennings, you must RSVP so make sure to do so before you head down there!

Hey Footers!  We just got back from our awesome beach rescue cleanup and celebration in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.  Over 200 people joined us for the cleanup at Upham Beach in St. Pete's Beach, FL, including the team from Publix as well as St. Pete's Beach Mayor Michael Finnerty!  It was a beautiful day and we wanted to thank everyone again for coming out and making Upham Beach barefoot-friendly!

The cleanup was followed by a celebration at Cha Cha Coconuts in St. Petersburg featuring a performance from Mason Jennings as the sun went down.  Thanks again to everyone who came out!

We can't believe we are already halfway through the Summer, but we are looking forward to the events still to come.  Lake Michigan in Chicago is next, and we hope to see you there!  In the meantime, please enjoy this clip from the cleanup.

Barefooter Happyfeet shared this recap and awesome photos from the Cleveland Wine Festival!

What a fantastic weekend we had at the Cleveland Wine Festival! This was the 2ndyear that Barefoot has been involved and we were so excited to see so many new faces at our booth!

The Barefoot Sangria Challenge was a success on both nights with Barb Moore stealing the 1st place prize (again) on both evenings! Overall the various contestants from Giant Eagle had a great time. We were also able to snag the Cleveland couple competing for the Today Show wedding as judges - very cool!! Moscato, Riesling, and Bubbly were crowd favorites.

Thanks Cleveland, Looking forward to next year!

  • Post July 4th Celebrations Beach Cleanups

    Jul 6, 2009

Laura Liebling of Kailua and her son Ian, 14, helped pick up trash yesterday at Ala Moana Beach Park. Photos by REBECCA BREYER | The Honolulu Advertiser We hope everyone had a great July 4th weekend and had the opportunity to see some great local fireworks and perhaps spend some time with friends and family chowing down on some good food.

Many firework shows were held on beaches which left messes behind but many wonderful vounteers from communities all over the country helped pitch in to clean up what was left behind on July 5th. Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine Beach in Florida, Ala Moana Beach Park in Hawaii and Montara State Beach in California were just a few beaches that saw volunteers come out for a post-holiday cleanup effort. It's wonderful to see that more and more eyes are opening up and more hands are helping out in the revitalization of our beautiful shores and bodies of water.

We'd love to hear about your July 4th weekend celebrations and any post-celebration cleanups that you may have been a part of!
