• On the banks of the Willamette River…

    Aug 23, 2010

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project made a stop in Portland, Oregon to help keep the Willamette River barefoot-friendly! It was our first river cleanup and we had volunteers from all over the Pacific Northwest out to join us.

That evening we had a fun celebration at Aquariva right on the river featuring a performance by Eric Hutchinson. In addition to playing his hits, he sang an impromptu song dedicated to all of the volunteers hard work (despite being attacked by mosquitoes).

We can’t believe the summer is almost over – our last stop is this Saturday in Miami Beach, where we will be working with the Miami Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation on a dune restoration. We hope to see all of your Floridians at the beach!

  • Greetings from the Lone Star State!

    Jul 16, 2010

Hey Footers!  This past weekend we had a great cleanup and celebration in Austin, TX.   Volunteers from all over Texas joined us as we cleaned Lady Bird Lake right in the heart of downtown Austin.  We found some pretty interesting items along the banks of the lake including some bedding, plenty of tennis balls and an awesome tricycle!

Following the cleanup we all gathered at Malverde – a local lounge – for delicious food and Barefoot Wine.  Eric gave another great performance and even sang an impromptu song about Barefoot Wine!

Our next stop is Portland, OR on Saturday, August 7 where we’ll be cleaning along the Willamette River… hope all of you Pacific Northwesters can make it out.  Until then, get barefoot and have a great time!

  • Surf's Up in Rockaway Beach!

    Jul 16, 2010

Hey Footers!  We’re back for the fourth year of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project and we are very excited about what we have lined up.  We are traveling to 21 locations nationwide this year and it all kicked off in Rockaway Beach, NY on Saturday June 12.

More than 150 volunteers joined us as we spread out all along famed Surfer’s Beach in New York City.  Following the cleanup we gathered together at Bungalow Bar & Restaurant a few blocks from the beach to celebrate everyone’s efforts.  Singer Eric Hutchinson has joined us this year for the Project and brought the house down with a fun performance.

Eric will also be joining us in Austin, TX, Portland, OR and Miami, FL.  Hope you can make it out.  Be sure to check the calendar page for the full listing of Beach Rescue Project events this summer.

  • Listen to Eric Hutchinson's "Rock & Roll"

    May 25, 2010

We can't wait to get this summer's Beach Rescue Project started, especially since our special guest star this year is Eric Hutchinson! We are very honored he'll be joining us this year in New York, Austin, Portland and Miami. To help get you all in the cleaning, beach rescue-ing spirit, we're streaming Eric's latest jam "Rock & Roll" off his album Sounds Like This. Enjoy!

  • Beach Rescue Is Back!

    May 19, 2010

Litterbugs beware!  The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is back for its fourth year, traveling coast-to-coast to keep America’s beaches “barefoot friendly.” With our partner the Surfrider Foundation, we’ll be hosting more than 20 beach cleanup and restoration events where you can lend a hand (and a foot!) Afterwards, join us for a post-cleanup celebration.

This year, musician Eric Hutchinson will be joining us at four locations to get barefoot on the beach and to perform a special concert for volunteers at the celebration.

Since 2007, we’ve cleaned more than 30 beaches, lakes and rivers to improve the state of our waterfronts and to raise awareness about keeping coastal communities healthy for generations to come.  Join us!

ABOUT BAREFOOT WINE BEACH RESCUE PROJECT

Barefoot has supported various not-for-profit organizations for more 20 years.  Since its inauguration in 2007, Barefoot Wine has donated more than $450,000 to the Surfrider Foundation in support of its mission to improve coastal water quality, promote free and open beach access, preserve coastal ecosystems and protect public beaches around the world.  The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is Barefoot’s effort to make a lasting footprint by “heeling” beaches across the country.

    ABOUT ERIC HUTCHINSON

Eric Hutchinson originally released his debut album, Sounds Like This, on his own label – Let’s Break Records – and he’s been breaking records ever since. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and peaked at #5 on iTunes’ album chart, becoming the highest-charting album by an unsigned act in iTunes history.  The first single “Rock & Roll” climbed to #1 on the AAA chart, making Hutchinson the only new artist to score a #1 hit at AAA radio in 2008; the accompanying video was the #1 most played video at VH1 for four straight weeks.  Eric just wrapped up a month-long tour of Australia and New Zealand and is currently recording his follow up to Sounds Like This; a new single is expected early Fall 2010.

On Saturday, August 29, Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation celebrated the culmination of 25 beach cleanups from coast-to-coast with a Beach Rescue Concert featuring performances by Mason Jennings, Cold War Kids, Gavin DeGraw and Joss Stone.

More than 250 volunteers braved Tropical Storm Danny to help keep the Jersey Shore “barefoot-friendly.”  That evening, more than 3,000 fans enjoyed the show!

  • Congrats to Santa Barbara!

    Aug 17, 2009

    25thanniversarylogo_lr_originalHey Footers!

A big congratulations goes out to the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, who doubled their donation through the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project!

With nearly 20,000 votes, Santa Barbara’s campaign to help preserve the Gaviota shoreline came out on top!  In celebration of Surfrider Foundation’s 25th anniversary, Barefoot Wine committed $25,000 to support four local beach-specific campaigns.  The three other campaigns will also receive $5,000 to put toward their efforts.  They include: Challenging Beach Management Permitting Practices: Stop Harmful Beach Fill Projects (Florida), Clearing the Path/Beach Access (Hawaii), and Sinking the Breakwater/Restore the Shore (California).

Thank you to all who voted!  Barefoot raises a glass to Surfrider’s Santa Barbara Chapter.

    Congratulations!
